Emotional Health of Adolescents

 

Adolescence is the progress from childhood to adulthood. It is the significant period for them. since they go through physiological and mental changes. Adolescence age is between 13 to 24.

Emotional health is one part of  mental health. Emotionally healthy people have the  ability to manage their thoughts, feeling and actions.

Adolescence, who are emotionally unhealthy, are vulnerable to social exclusion, discrimination, stigma, educational difficulties, risk-taking behaviours,  physical illness and human rights violations.

Problems of adolescence

Anxiety

Anxiety influences the body and psyche. They frequently have strained and stressed outlook on a circumstance what they are in or what could come in.

Depression

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Depression happen to anyone at anytime. symptoms may vary for  adolescence when compare to grown-ups. Depressed adolescence academic performance might be low, might be  addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Depression and anxiety share some of the same symptoms, including rapid and unexpected changes in mood.

Anxiety and depressive disorders can profoundly affect school attendance academic performance.  Social withdrawal can intensify isolation and loneliness. Depression can lead to suicide.

Behavioural disorders

Behavioural disorders are more common among younger adolescents than older adolescents. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), characterized by difficulty paying attention, Lack of time management skills and Mood swings.

Risk-taking behaviours

Many risk-taking behaviours for health, such as substance use or sexual risk-taking, start during adolescence. Risk-taking behaviours can be an unhelpful strategy to cope with emotional difficulties and can severely impact an adolescent’s mental and physical well-being.
