PhD Not Mandatory in India
UGC NET qualified applicants can apply for the Assistant professor enrollment in colleges and universities.
University
Grand Commission (UGC) director M Jagadesh Kumar said that PhD isn't required
for enrollment to the posts of assistant professor in central University.
Talking at the introduction of the recently built UGC-HRDC expanding on the
Osmania university (OU) campus, Kumar added that a qualification in the
Commission's national eligibility Test (NET) would be adequate for it, detailed
Telangana Today.
The
decisions is being taken so experts who don't have PhDs can be delegated as
assistant professors universities in India. Moreover, the move likewise expects
to give open doors to experts who need to teach
in university yet can't as they don't have a PhD degree.
The
central government had before revised the Commission's guidelines that made PhD
the base qualification standards for recruiting right assistant professor. The
new rules were to become effective in 2021 however got delayed because of the
Coronavirus pandemic. Media reports propose that it later got reached out till
July 2023. In any case, meanwhile, recruiting forged ahead with the premise of
the University Grand Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) score.
