WORLD HIV/AIDS DAY 2023

The purpose of World AIDS Day is to give governments, organizations, and people a forum to discuss and act against HIV/AIDS. AIDS, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome, is caused by the HIV virus. The immune system is weakened by this virus, which makes it more difficult for the body to fight off infections and malignancies. In 1988, the inaugural World AIDS Day was observed. History of World AIDS Day World AIDS Day was established in August 1988 by public information officers James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter of the World Health Organization's AIDS Global Program in response to the terrible HIV/AIDS pandemic. Dr. Johnathan Mann, the Director of the AIDS Global Program, authorized the idea for December 1st, 1988, with an expected 90,000 to 150,000 people HIV-positive.
