WORLD HIV/AIDS DAY 2023

The purpose of World AIDS Day is to give governments, organizations, and people a forum to discuss and act against HIV/AIDS. AIDS, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome, is caused by the HIV virus. The immune system is weakened by this virus, which makes it more difficult for the body to fight off infections and malignancies. In 1988, the inaugural World AIDS Day was observed.

History of World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day was established in August 1988 by public information officers James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter of the World Health Organization's AIDS Global Program in response to the terrible HIV/AIDS pandemic. Dr. Johnathan Mann, the Director of the AIDS Global Program, authorized the idea for December 1st, 1988, with an expected 90,000 to 150,000 people HIV-positive. Research and medical partner developments over the 1990s have greatly enhanced the care provided to those living with HIV.

World AIDS Day 2023

December 1st is the  date of World AIDS Day observation. On this day, we honor the tremendous contributions that communities have made to both the HIV response and global health in general. The WHO honors and celebrates the vital roles that communities have played in spearheading the HIV response on World AIDS Day in 2023. It's a day to take stock of the progress that's been done thus far and to draw attention to the obstacles still standing in the way of eradicating AIDS by 2030.

9.2 million individuals worldwide lack access to the necessary HIV therapy, according to WHO reports. Every day, 3500 people become infected with HIV, and 1700 people die from HIV-related causes. Many of these individuals are unaware of their status or have.

2023's World AIDS Day: Date & Subject

Every year on December 1, people mark World AIDS Day. A former San Francisco television broadcast journalist had suggested December 1st, reasoning that it would maximize coverage of World AIDS Day by Western news outlets, coming just after the US elections but before Christmas. Ever since, WHO has recommended a different topic each year.

"Let communities lead" will be the focal point of World AIDS Day 2023 this year. The WHO website states that this year's theme is a call to action to encourage and empower communities to take on leadership roles, rather than just celebrating the accomplishments of individual communities.

HIV prevention
In keeping with the proverb "Prevention is better than cure," the following preventive actions might be made:

Secure sexual relations
routine STD testing and treatment.
have just one sexual partner
Refusing to engage in behaviors such as sharing needles and HIV testing
usage of prophylactic medications, such as those used before and after exposure.
